Nest was wife to Gerald de Windsor and mother to the generation of children that conquered and ruled large portions of Ireland and Wales. She was known as the "Helen of Wales" for her beauty and also made her the object of conquest among prominent rulers in the region including Henry I, whom she was a ward of until being given to Gerald de Windsor. She saved her husbands life by helping him escape during an attempted kidnapping (of herself) and assassination (of Gerald). She was abducted and several children by her abductor before being reunited with Gerald. In all, it appears that she had many children from five different men although for the fitzgerald genealogical purposes we will only concentrate on the children with Gerald for now. Nest is also seen in some texts as Nesta and this may be a variation in spelling or a confusion with her grand-daughter named Nesta. Therefore references to Nest must be studied carefully to ensure through lineage, parentage and date references which Nest is being referred to in context. | |||
