Gerald de Windsor
Nest Verch Rhys

The Fitzgerald crest on the navigation bars is from the original Fitzgerald crest and the "Fitz-Gerald" crest is different, but I haven't been able to get it digitized yet, so for now this will have to do (it's correct if you go back roughly 1,000 years so using it is not entirely incorrect ... well it is, but deal with it).  When I get the actual one of this branch with ermine on it, I'll change it at that time.

Genealogy Notes

Burke's Peerage was particularly useful in tracing back the family tree to 753.  Collectively, the Fitz-Geralds and their descendants are known as "The Geraldines" and include with variations of spelling, the Fitz-Geralds (fitzgerald) and Fitz-Maurice (fitzmaurice), the Barons (who changed their surname due to the vast number of titles they were granted) and also the FitzGibbons.  I'll probably find many more.  The Fitz-Geralds had a strong catholic background that backed the Yorkists in the "War of Roses" and their religious convictions broke their alliance with Henry VIII (when he broke away from the Catholic church).  This led to their demise at the hands of the English crown because of their new and superior weapons (something called a cannon) and loss of lands and titles covering most of Ireland.

The following genealogy links show some interesting, although in some cases impossible to prove, links to very ancient historical times.

Gherardo Gherardini (b978) is great grandfather of Gerald of Windsor

The history of Florence bases it's founding on Anaes a survivor of the siege of Troy who wandered for seven years after its overthrow until he came to Latium (now Italy).  Anaes divided his lands among his descendants.  To Gherardo, he gave the land of Hetruria, where Florence now stands.

Kind of cool - here's the link (too bad it can't be traced all the way back to the Trojan War):
